I don't get it with JW's and Walmart. My old hall used to frequent the Walmart parking lot and witness to people coming and going. Can you imagine how irritating it would be to have hot kids in the car and melting ice cream in the trunk and be approached by Watchtower peddlers begging you to agree how horrible the world is. I totally refused to do that or business territory when I was in (sorry did annoy folks at their homes). Last time I was at the airport they had a table there too. NMKA

They have a table at the local Walmart now
by life is to short inomg i just heard this morning that they have a table set up at the local walmart, so i had to drive by.
it is huge with two huge signs one spanish and one english of blown up pictures of some of the book covers like you can live forever and young people ask, etc with a card table in the middle and two very boarded looking people just sitting there.
this morning was the spanish congo's turn but the walmart is in my halls territory so the english speaking ones from my hall will man it on the english speaking times i guess.

Questions for HomeSchoolers
by RubaDub ini know very little about homeschooling (as will likely be evident by my comments) but it has always fascinated me.. we have one daughter.
i could see home schooling in the early years, but after grades 5 or 6, wow ... that would be a challenge.
and i have a college degree.. my general comment/question is ... is if someone is that knowledgeable about so many different disciplines (math, science, literature, social studies, history, art, music, etc) why isn't he or she a professional teacher?

My only experience with home schooling is JW's I know that did it. Many of the moms I knew didn't even have a highschool education let alone a college education and like you said you don't know that you don't know things unless you at least know some things and they knew nothing! Many of them expressed how nice it was to sleep in and go on vacation whenever they wanted to after they took the children out of school. Are not these some of the great lessons school teaches?
Also many of them (JW's) feel no need for higher studies of biology, literature, or mathmatics so that is not an issue. I've noticed once the boys know the basics like 12 or so they just get in trouble or work with their dad. Girls wait to get married. I really don't have much knowlege of any non JW's that have homeschooled maybe they take it more seriously. NMKA

There was a poster on here that I recognized from his name and story. He had moved out of state and sounded very tormented. Haven't seen him post in about a year. I feel kind of guilty for not reaching out to him, I wasn't ready to be that "out". Now I don't care, I'm pretty "out". NMKA

Change in meeting attendance procedure - can't figure out why though
by sir82 inper a recent letter to elders:.
beginning september 1, there will be a change to the way attendance is recorded at congregation meetings.. currently, attendance is counted at 4 of the 5 meeting (public talk, wt study, congregation "bible" study, and service meeting).. but after sept. 1, meeting attendance will only be taken at 2 of the meetings - during the "first quarter" of the wt study, and also at the cbs.. .
no reason in given for the change in the letter, and i can't figure out why myself.. the numbers are not published anywhere - the only "official" record is a 6 month average the co puts together during his visit.. why request less information from the congregations, especially when it "costs" nothing to accumulate it in the first place?

Probably because the guy who took attendance for second meeting being the tower and the service meeting is checking out at half time just like we used to. NMKA

As a Woman Have your Attitudes Towards Men Changed After Exiting JW's ?
by flipper inbeing raised in the jehovah's witnesses cult from birth - i saw many females mistreated, abused in a demeaning manner whether subtly or right out in the open.
before congregation meetings in the 1960's even as a boy i saw an elder talk rudely to his wife as if she was a child- and the wife put her head down in sadness.
i saw jw men take themselves way too seriously as alleged " heads of their house " - because the wt society pushed the headship issue into every witness marriage.

Not much has changed in our marriage since we exited, although I don't feel guilty about it anymore. You see neither one of believed in the headship bull crap. We always made decisions together, I never played dumb wish washy passive girl and he never pulled the family head card on me. I always worked and we put each other through school. However, I used to feel guilty about it , now I realize it was healthy. I never had a desire to stay home everyday or to pioneer, I liked working. My husband never did encourage me to pioneer, I think he liked the extra money and the dimension to my personality it added.
Now that I can stand back and look at most of the men"in the truth" they a bunch of real jerks. I don't think they were born that way this organization just breeds them.

Jehovah provides for pioneers but takes no action on behalf of children being abused
by jambon1 inthis was something that i could never get my head around.. i recall being at a convention and a pioneer couple (who happened to be complete arseholes) were talking about how they had had this bill for a car repair & 'didn't know what they were going to do so they prayed about it & waited on jehovah'.
the bill was for 66.73 & within a few days they had returned home to find an electricity rebate made out to them for 66.73. et voila!
all sorted out.

Jambon, you are in England, I am in America. Good lord how is that that same story just keeps rearing it's ugly head, guess they are running low on feel good stories. Maybe it just wouldn't be the same with little Johnny up there in his suit he says "yes brother I prayed real hard that brother Chester the molester book study conductor stop fondeling me and low and behold he got ran over by a truck the next day"! applause applause Jehovah really does hear my prayers! See it's just not the same as the electricity rebate story! NMKA

Bought a few books at the library
by mrsjones5 inand two of the books are wt pubs, the secret of family happiness for .50 cents and what does the bible really teach for .25 cents.
my daughter was with me and asked why did i buy the jw books and i replied to prevent anyone else from buying them.
she then asked what was i going to do with the books and i said i would keep them for a little while and then dispose of them.

Hi Gutted, I know the feeling, it just lingers doesn't it? It is normal, I think , for these issues to come up again once in awhile when you think they have been but to bed. When you have family in especially. Deal with family things as they come up, form friendships on the outside and do not and I repeat do not go in the back room! NMKA
